We invite suitable applicants to apply for the position of Simulation and Medical Education Anaesthetic Provisional Fellow at Western Health.

This position is split between a provisional fellowship role in clinical anaesthesia and simulation/education. The successful applicant will also benefit from mentoring for making the transition from trainee to specialist regarding supervising junior trainees, running the floor and taking on departmental responsibilities.

Sub-specialty experience is available in thoracics, paediatrics, obstetrics, vascular, ENT, major hepatobiliary, robotic surgery and perioperative medicine.

This position will provide:

  • Exposure of the trainee to the use of simulation as an educational tool as it applies to all medical disciplines and grades with particular emphasis on anaesthesia based simulation for basic and advanced trainees.

  • The opportunity to gain experience in translational simulation for quality improvement initiatives and systems review.

  • Exposure to and the ability to develop skills related to setting up, running and debriefing high fidelity education sessions.

  • Exposure to the use of simulation as a quality assurance tool as it relates to patient risk reduction and morbidity case review.

  • The chance to undertake research related to simulation education with an emphasis on attempting to measure outcomes related to simulation education in clinical practice.
