The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) is a two-day course aimed at developing advanced skills in the management of the adult deteriorating patient and cardiac arrest management.
The ALS2 course credentials are recognised internationally by organisations including the Resuscitation Council (UK), New Zealand Resuscitation Council (NZRC) and European Resuscitation Council (ERC).
Many professional colleges also credential the course and grant educational development points for completion including ANZCA, ACEM, ACRRM, CICM, RACGP and RACP.

Learning Outcomes
The ALS2 course teaches the knowledge and skills required to:
Recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
Demonstrate cardiac arrest management using the standardised approach of the Australian Resuscitation Council
Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including starting CPR, manual defibrillation, management of life threatening arrhythmias, and post resuscitation care
Care for the deteriorating patient or patient in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis and pregnancy
Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills including giving an effective handover
Program Eligibility
The course is designed for healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, or to teach them on a regular basis. Appropriate participants include doctors and nurses working in critical care areas (e.g. emergency, ICU/HDU, anaesthetics/theatre, coronary care, acute admissions units, resuscitation/medical emergency teams), and paramedics.
Prior competence in CPR is an essential prerequisite to attending the course.
Medical students and healthcare providers not covered in the groups above are encouraged to initially complete the ALS1 course also offered at Western Health.
Each course is limited to 18 participants.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
No refunds, transfers or credits will be given for non-attendance or cancellation within ten (10) working days of the course. Prior to this, refunds will incur a $100 cancellation fee (includes course manual cost) or you may apply to transfer to another course in the same calendar year at no fee.
